First visit procedure<\/h2>\n

Ideally, children should first see the dentist when they are around two years old. On this first visit, the dentist and the hygienist will make a point of creating a positive first experience for the child while conducting an examination and cleaning. They will also teach you how to effectively brush and floss your child\u2019s teeth.<\/p>\n

Nearly 50% of all patients are afraid the dentist. To avoid transmitting your own fears to your child, try to be positive and explain to your son or daughter what will happen at the appointment. Your collaboration is important before, during and after the visit.<\/p>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n

Before the first visit<\/h2>\n

There are many books about going to the dentist for the first time. We suggest you choose one and read it to your child a few days before his or her first appointment. This should be reassuring.<\/p>\n

The night before the first appointment, summarize the steps of the visit.<\/p>\n

Never tell a child that he or she will not feel any discomfort\/pain during the examination or cleaning.<\/p>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n

During the visit<\/h2>\n

We may ask you to accompany your child and hold him or her on your lap during the examination.<\/p>\n

If your child is a little older, we may ask you to return to the waiting room after we have greeted him or her.<\/p>\n

Listen carefully to the instructions on proper oral care and keep a positive attitude.<\/p>\n

Schedule an appointment every six months.<\/p>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n

After the visit<\/h2>\n

Make sure that your child brushes his or her teeth at least twice a day or after every meal. Don\u2019t forget to floss before bed.<\/p>\n

Pay attention to your child\u2019s nutrition and offer him or her foods that are low in sugar and acid.<\/p>\n
