Periodontology
What is periodontology?
Periodontology, also known as periodontics, is the treatment of the periodontium (the tissue that surrounds your teeth, including the gums, cement, alveolar bone and alveolo-dental ligaments). Bacterial and parasitic infections are the cause of periodontic disease. To prevent, detect and treat these problems, patients should maintain good oral hygiene and see their dental professional regularly.
When patients skip dental appointments, simple cases of gum disease can worsen and become periodontitis, a more serious infection that can damage teeth and cause cavities. If you have inflamed gums or spot blood during brushing, that’s a warning sign! These symptoms can be a sign of gum disease. Make an appointment with a dental professional right away and get on track with the right treatment for you.
